SHIPOWNERS' HOPES
AT ECONOMIC CONGRESS. (Received 11.30- a.m.) LONDON, June 14. The "Daily Telegraph" states that shipowners are hoping for a great deal from the Imperial Economic Conference. A committee representing the Chamber of Shipping has been appointed to discuss questions to come before conference, including inter-Imperial taxation of shipping, immunity from taxation of Government-owned shipping, and financial arrangements between Britain and the Dominions in connection with overseas settlement.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.) WELL-KNOWN ACTRESS DEAD. MOTHER OF MARIE LOHB. (Received 0 a.m.) LONDON, June 14. The death is announced of Kate Bishop, mother of Marie Lohr, the actress. — (A. and N.Z. Cable.) Kate Bishop made her first appearance on the stage in ISG7 at the Charing Cross Theatre. She was the original Violet Melrose in Byron's famous comedy, "Our Boys," produced at the Vaudeville in 1875. sustaining the part for the run of four years and four months. 'On its withdrawal she appeared as Mabel Clench in "Our Girls." For many years she resided in Australia with herhusband, Mr. J. Lohr, and after her return played in most of the Wieat End theatres, subsequently touring with, the Kendals, appearing with them in their last season in London.
