Captain Aldhelm-White, recently of the Royal North-West Mounted Police (Canada), who has been on a visit to friends in Dunedin, will lep™. for Christchurch in a few days to assume duties as an officer in the Forestry Service. Captain Aldhelm-White. after serving as an officer with the Canadian forces in the Great War, joined the Mounted Police, and was on holiday leave in New Zealand when he was offered a [position in the Forestry Service. He j cabled his superior officer in Vancouver, i and was given extended leave, and the •! right to resign. Cantain AldhelmWhito has had five years' service with the Mounted Police. A graduate of Auckland University I College. Mr. Gerard Maskell. has Just J been appointed assistant to Professor I Kirk, professor of biology at Victoria ! University College, Wellington. . Mr. J Maskell 'is a son of Dr. Maskell, Symonds Street, and relinquished the) ' study of medicine to take up biology, especially zoology. He has taken the degrees of'B.A. and B.Sc, and has had ] a good education in languages and phyI sical and biological sciences. For some j time ho lias been conducting a research lon the structure and life history of the weta, a large insect very common around Auckland.
