DRUGS AT ROTOROA.
AX ESCAPEE'S STATEMENT. MAILS NOT CENSORED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, this, day. A young man, Edward G. Barker, charged with escaping from the Rotoroa Inebriates' Home, was remanded to Auckland. Accused, when arrested on the steamer had drug appliances. His counsel alleged that the conditions existing on Rotoroa were disgraceful. There was no censorship of letters, and inmates received drugs and hypodermic syringes through the post. Accused was sent to Rotoroa to get away from drugs, but was worse than ever there.
