At the AVhangarcl Warden's Court to-day, presided over by. Mr. F. H. levlen, S.M., the New Zealand Quicksilver Mines, Ltd. (Mr...W. A. Carruth), asked for a -. reduction -of rental for three sections at Pubipuhi. Counsel stated that one of the directors had recently gone to England in connection with the sale or reformation of the company. He cabled option had also been granted. Meantime the company had expended its funds. Though it was not ■winning mercury at present. It whr necessary to keep -a caretaker at the mine. The option,-said Mr. W. T. Simmons, one of the directors, was for clx months with a right of renewal upon payment of £500. .-i ■. The Warden stated that he would consider the matter, but Indicated that any concession -In rental granted would be shortdated, as there was a likelihood of a biz company being floated to work cinnabar in the near future. " "•"*""*• .' THE COTTON MARKET. "The price of raw cotton," report Messrs. JMailler and Quereau, of New York, "has kept steadily advancing until It has risen to over 31 cents per pound, the highest that we have had since war time. This is an advance of almost 100 per «ent within a ■ year, and there has been a very wide and : aetlye speculation for all of the crop. Specu- : - latora and dealers are now trying to form come Idea as to the outlook for this year's '■rop, but it is a mere matter of speculation j and -will be for some months to come. A • large crop of cotton this year would be of Terr great benefit the world over. Cotton goods are, of course, affected *j the high price of raw cotton, and manufacturer)! are very slow and cautious In making sales and <Jo not want to take orders unless at very considerable advances.
