WHANGAREI HARBOUR BOARD.
NEW OFFICES OPENED. (By Telegraph.—Own ■Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, Thursday. The new offices of the Whangarei Harbour Board were formally opened this afternoon by the chairman, Mr. J. D. McKenzie. Representatives of all the : local bodies were present, and eongratu- | latory addresses were delivered by Mr. F. Cutforth, Deputy-Mayor, Mr. W. Jones, county chairman, Mr. R. G. Hosking, president of the Chamber of Commerce, and two former Harbour Board chairmen, Messrs. P. S. Brown and H. Weaver. The latter said he bought the site of the new offices fifteen years ago for £500. To-day they were invaluable, and his only fear was that the substantial pile of buildings in j which they met would prove too small in the undoubted expansion that was coining to Whangarei. The chairman, before declaring the j building open, unveiled a foundation stone commemorating the beginning of a great harbour improvement enterprise, which is now in progress.
