MELBOURNE BLAZE.
SHOWERS OF BURKING CORKS. MELBOURNE, February 25. Early on Saturday morning a huge conflagration occurred at the premises of the Cork and Crown Seal Co., Ltd., at the corner of Crown Parade and Grant Street, Xorth Fitzroy. In about an hour the entire factory, a threestoreyed brick building, was completely gutted, and property valued at about £40,000 was destroyed. The big stock of corks and inflammable material made a tremendous and spectacular blaze. It was a wonderful sight. When the firemen arrived on the scene the heat from the burning factory was so great that they were unable to attack the flames at close quarters. The building was on fire from end to end. and showers of burning corks were flying about in all directions. Realising the uselessness of savintr N the factory, the main attention of the firemen was directed to the prevention of outbreaks of fire in the neighbouring dwelling;. The factory was only partially insured.
