NEW LYNN. An ordinary meeting of the New Lynn Town Board took place last evening. There were present: Messrs. C. K. Gardner (chairma m, A J. Thorn, Geo. Lawson, A. Taylor, S. Wilding, and E. Ktnoey. Maintenance of Main Koads. —The Minister of Internal Affairs acknowledged a.l letter from the Board iv respect to obtain-, ing contributions towards the cost of road maintenance from the adjoining local : bodies. It was intimated that it would lie necessary for the Board to make a bonn fide attempt to arrive at an amicable Rcttlement with the adjoining local authori-| ties as to the proportions of the cost each should puy. Failing such an agreement j boing arrived at the Minister would be! prepared to favourably consider the- setting; up of a Commission to inquire into the' matter. It would also »><• necessary to furnish the Department with a plan of the roads in question. The Legal and Finance. Committee were asked to submit a 1 schedule of suggested contributions by oilier local hodie*.

Sub-way. —It was decided to remind the Railway iiepurtmeiit of its promise to construct a sub-way at lue railway station conditionally on the Hoard providing the land, to junction with Totara Avenue. The Board, having now acquired the necessary land, wishes the work to be proceeded witn.

Town Planning.—Mr. Lawson drew attention to the absence of any town planning scheme in connection with the large amount of land being subdivided in the district. . Road reserves were certainly being pru vi.led, but they did not form part of a definite scheme. He expressed the opinion that an engineer's report should be obtained ! iv relation to this matter, which might, prove advantngpous to the district and property owners alike. This view was endorsed by the chairman, and the board agreed to giye consideration to the suggestion made when the estimates for the new year are discussed.

Water Rates. —The Minister of Internal Affairs forwarded a ropy of a letter he had received from the New Lynn Ratepayers' Association intimating that "the Board's olmrce for water on capital and annual valuation was similar to that of the Pukekohe Town Board." The Association stated that they favoured meters, with a small minimum consumption. The Boarrt ms asked to forward its views nil tUe matter to the Minister lit an early date. Tt was derided to inform the Minister that the Association's comparison with Pukekohe was not oorrprt. and that the present filter rate was in order.

Waterworks.—The turncock reported that tKf dwellings were now connected with the Board's water mains.

OTAHUHU. •U the fortnightly meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council a U-tu-r was received from Mr. A. 11. Bridge, surveyor, submitting a plau of a proposed sub-division of ilie Gallagher estate in Princes Street. Ilie. plan was approved. The town clerk reported that he had received a letter from -Mr. \\. K. McKean. SM to the effect that the commission appointed to inquire into the matter of Mr K. Ilarding's petition for the cscliwlon <;t liis property from the borough, would sit at the courthouse. Otahuhu. on the 2itn Inst After consulting members or the council he hart handed this letter, with the other papers, to the borough's solicitor, Mr. .T. Stanton. The town clerk's action was continued. A report was received from the foreman as to the primitive nature of the conveniences at the public school, Otahulm. and the council decided to write to the Education Hoard and enter a strong protest asalnst the continuance of the existing state of The town clerk stated that the total quantity of water pumped during tbe year JSV ,0 amounted to 28.538.000 gallons, and that tbe royalty payable to the Mt. Richmond Domain Board would therefore be fil'-'O 3/2. The account was passed for payment.

The medical oOicer of health wrote stating that on making an inspection at «estfield. oDe of his Inspectors had found crude sewage and blood flowing from the outfalls of the city abattoirs, and from W. RFletcher's works at dead low tide. The persons concerned had been notified that this nuisance must be stopped. The Auckland Meat Co. and Messrs. V>\ R. Fletcher, Ltd.. wrote statins that the recent complaints of smell at Westtield were not attributable to their works. The letters were received.

MOUNT EDEN. The Mount Tden Boroueh Council met last evening, Mr. J. \V. Shackellord presiding. , Disposal of Refuse.—lt was reported that the Bpllfivue Hoad tip had been closed by Hie engineer, as instrin-teil. nnd Household refuse was bein<r .lumped at the Mount Edeii tip in a tUiToiifrlily s.initary manner. Ilepairs to Pnice Avenue. —A request was received froul residents "f Paice Avenue asking for repairs to the footpaths without delay, as they were dangerous for pedestrians. The work, it was stated, would shortly be put in hand, as debentures were now heinff placed. * Roard Purine Works.—lt was decided, on the recommendation of the Streets Committee, to cover Mount Eden Road and Dominion Rnad with two coats of bitumen at the wo>-st parts. The cost was estimated at about £2000.
