THE WAIPAWA TRAGEDY.

JEALOUS HUSBANDS CRIME,

WELLINGTON, Monday.

The inquest held at Waipukurau on the body of Mrs. Linda Maihi, the second victim of the Waipawa tragedy of January 2, concluded this morning. The evidence showed that deceased's husband. Puhi Maihi, was jealous because his wife bad determined to leave him for another man. He hit her with a claw hammer and fractured her skull in Bix places, afterwards shooting himself dead with a shotgun. The wife never regained complete consciousness, and died on February 18.

A verdict to the effect that death was caused by wounds inflicted by Puhi Maihi was returned.
