Yesterday afternoon a youth, when walking along the foreshore beyond Thorndon breastwork, observed some clothes lying near the water. Looking round to see if he could discover the owner, he saw a body floating in the water. He reported the matter to Captain Watson, of the Mararoa, who obtained a boat, and, with the assistance of another man, brought the body to the shore. Artificial respiration was beet up for some time but without avail. Deceased, an elderly man, was identified as George Taylor, who had resided at 80, Constable Street. He had been out of work for some time.
