The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report:— At Westfleld fat stock market on Wednesday beef was penned In large numbers; competition was steady throughout for ox beef, which sold readily at late quotations. Cow beef was also penned in large numbers, competition being keen, with prices on the Improve from last week's sale. No extra heavy prime steers were penned. Heavy prime steers £8 12/6 to £9 15/. medium £7 10/ to £8 10/. light £8 5/ to £7 7/6; plain and unfinished steers, £4 10/ to £6; heavy prime cojvs and heifers £-5 5/ to £7, medium and light £3 15/ to £5- other cows, £2 to £3 10/; extra choice oxen, to 25/ per 1001b: choice and prime oxen. 19/ to 24/ per 1001b: rough and inferior oxen, 14/ to 18/; yOunsr cow and heifer beef. 17/ to £1 2/; other cow beef, 12/ to 16/. Calves were penned in averare numbers, selling at scarcely late quotations. Runners, £2 to £2 l»/ : heavy vealers, £2 4/ to £2 15/, medium fl 12/ to f2 3/. light 22/ to 31/, smaller 11/ to 21/, small and fresh dropped 4/ to 10/. Pigs were penned In average numbers, prices being slightly better than last week. Alfred Buckland and Sons, Ltd., report:— Yesterday at our weekly Westfleld fat stock market our supply of beef totalled 026 head, comprising 372 steers, 147 cows and heifers, and 7 bulls. There was again a steady demand throughout. Last week's advanced rates were easily sustained, and In odd cases exceeded. Extra choice ox sold to £1 5/ per 1001b; choice and prime ox £1 2/ to £1 4/; ordinary and plain ox 10/8 to fl 1/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 17/6 to £1 2/; ordinary cow beef, 14/ to 17/; rough beef 10/ to 13/; heavy prime steers ranged in price from £8 10/ to £10 Tighter prime steers £7 5/ to.£B 15/; light prime steers £5 15/ to £7 B/6; unfinished and small £3 to £5 10/; extra - heavy-prime young cows and heifers £6 10/ to £7 15/; heavy prime young cows and heifers. £5 S/ to £6 71/B; lighter £4 to £5; other cows £1 5/ to £3 15/. There was a heavy yarglng of I sheep, and a keen demand for all classes. Prime medium-weight mutton sold at last week's quotations, as also did forward wethers and young ewes.
