ROYAL OAK ROBBERIES.
ACCUSED BEFORE COURT. Acting on information received from Constable Moss, Detectives O'Brien and McHugh and Constable Barnes, of Onehunga, yesterday evening proceeded to Otaliuhu and arrested a one-armed man named .Summers Heruika Edwards (28), who recently came under notice a-s a prohibition speaker. It is stated that at the house of the accused there were found various articles which are alleged to be the proceeds of robberies from shops at Royal Oak and in the city, in a statement to the police, Edwards has admitted the burglaries and intimated his intention to plead guilty to them. This morning Edwards was brought ibpfore the Court, charged that he did by night, at Royal Oak, break into the shop of Elijah Orman and steal therefrom a quantity of boots and shoes valued at £30. In applying for a remand for a week the Chief Detective stated that the accused admitted five other charges of a similar nature, which would be preferred against him on his nest appearance in Court. Edwards (who was represented by Mr. Allan Moody) was remanded until Thursday next. Bail was fixed at £150, or two sureties of £75 each.
