RHINE FOOD RIOT.
[ TITTY THOUSAND PARTICIPATE BRITISH HELP CALLED IN. BERLIN, November 16. Strike troubles arc spreading in Rhineland, where 50,0C0 workers arc involved. [ Four persons have been killed, and 10 . wounded. Many police have been injured. The German authorities were unable to , cope with night-long rioting in Cologne, and invoked the help of the British military police. The situation is serious.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.) WAGES ON THE RAND. FURTHER CUTS OPPOSED. MINING BOARD'S REPORT. (Received 11.30 a.m.) CAPETOWN, November 16. The forecast of the report of the Min--1 ing Industry Board states that the ■ board agrees that the removal of the status quo and the economics effected in the mining industry since the strike 1 were justified, but it does not favour 1 extension of such economics, either by I wage cuts or retrenchments. Tho board condemns the proposal to classify the II mines into grades with varying rates of I ] wages as impracticable.— (A. and N.Z.)
