ELDERLY MAORI KILLED.
• I STRUCK BY A TRAIN. A Maori named Tewae Haere, aged 70 years, was struck by the Mcrccr-Frankton train when it was passing through Ngamawahia yesterday, and died 20 minutes later as the result of his injuries. At the inquest held at. Ngaruawahia, the Rev. Kirkwood, Maori minister, stated that the deceased was very deaf and almost blind. The accident occurred at the level crossing at Main Street. The driver of the train testified that, owing to the big curve, tho view of anyone on or close to the line was obscured. He knew nothing of the accident until he reached Frankton. Tlie fireman gave similar evidence. The coroner. Mr. Young. S.M., returned a verdict of accidental death.
