SMALL COASTAL STEAMERS.
A QUESTION* OF WAGES. (Ry Telegraph.—Press Association.) WBLLIJJCTOX, this day. The Arbitration Court to-day resumed hearing of the Seamen's and Firemen's dispute, already partially heard at Auckland in May -and at Dunedin in June. The claims made by the union and reductions sought by the companies were published 'at the time of the first bearing. The court is taking evidence to-day from smaller shipowners. The general manager of the Richardson Company (Napier) stated that the company's vessels were snvall and their earnings had materially decreased. He quoted figures showing that the earnings of seamen and tiremen on the company's ships amounted to nearly £300 per annum on an average. On some of the company's smaller vessels the wages were less than MOO. Some men received up t° £-400 per annum.
