Wilford are making a strenuous effort to secure another candidate for Kaiapoi, -end state that Mr. \V. P. Spencer is willing to stand aside if one of the party leaders becomes a candidate. An effort is being made to induce Sir Joseph Ward to allow himself to be nominated. A deputation may wait upon Sir Joseph within the next few days with » view to gaining his consent to nomination.
