A WAR TIME INCIDENT. i UNDER OFFER TO JAPANESE GOVERNMENT. The proposed sale of Kawau Island during the war was mentioned by Andrew Joseph Farmer, during his bankruptcy proceedings yesterday. Bankrupt owns a portion of the island at present, but at one time it was all his property. Mr. McKay: What is the best offei you received for Kawau Island. Bankrupt: £100,000. Cash?—£2s,ooo in cash. I think then is a a gentleman in the room who offeree £30,000 while I was away in Australia How was it you did not sell it? —Be cause I had something else in my mind I had the island under -offer-to the Jap ane.se Government. Mr. McKay: For a naval station? Bankrupt: Don't ask questions like that. I have enough to put up with without suggesting things like that. I did not ask them what they wanted with it. When was that?— During the course of the war. Have you got any letters? —Yes. Did you hand them over to the Official Assignee?— No. Is there anything in writing about the Japanese Government? —Yes. Can you give it to the Official .Assignee? — Yes-
