MANUREWA NEWS.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Some time ago tbe public voluntarily subscribed over fifty pounds for the purehas* of a clock to be placed outside the Mann- ! rewa Post Office. After a conference with the chief postmaster the amount was paid over to the Tubllc Works Department for them to do the best they could. The result is that a suitable two-faced clock has been placed on Great South Road. The dial i* two feet in diameter, and will be versuseful to travellers as well as local residents. At the Town Board meetintr held ou • Monday it was resolved that the Board approach the Electric Tower Board direct, with regard to the absence of sn"> stations south of Penrose, and reticulation of that area in the last published statement of proposed future expansion by th« Power Board. A deputation of ratepayers waited on the 'Board urging the completion of the footpath on Great South Road. The request was acceded to. A special vote of thanks was accorded to the chairman (Mr. T. J. Corin) for his services in connection with the finances of the Board, and other public business, during his recent visit to Wellington. It was resolved that the following resolution be sent to Mr. Massey:—"That an owner of land should be able to sell frontage to an existing road, or to suhdivide a portion of his property at a time, and should not be compelled, as at present, to form and dedicate all roads, whether these are wanted or not. before he can give titl% to one allotment. A preliminary report was received from Mr. .Slyfield, engineer, (With regard to estimate of cost of water supply from Wairere stream and Totara watershed. The question will be considered at a public meeting. It was resolved to call a public meeting as soon as the annual balance-sheet Is received from the auditor-general. A progressive policy for the advancement of Manurewa will be introduced at the meeting for the consideration of the ratepayers.
