"B.B." HOLOW BLOCKS.
MADE OF LlyUfD CONCRETE. THE IDEAL HOUSE-BLOCK. ! I The display o f concrete blocks at the 11 show is easily the finest that has been 11 got together in Xew Zealand. I A house-block whicli attracted atteni tion above the ordinary was the "8J3." ; block manufactured by an enterprising Hamilton firm known as the "B.B." | Hollow Block, Ltd. Their blocks are the only all-wet double reinforced continuous cavity blocks on the market, and they certainly give every appearance of , being the ideal house-block. The double i reinfore'em'ents are done with No. 8 gauge galvanised wire, and are continu- ; ous round each block. This block gives a system of construction with a continuous flow of fresh-air through the cavity, is proof against all pests, maintenance ' costs practically nothing, and there is ensured a house of even temperature— warm in winter and cool in summer. Each block is ISm long by 6.|.in high by Tin wide, including the cavity which is a ! third the width of the block, which will take the place of eight ordinary bricks. The two sides of walls forming the cavity are eTected in one operation. The saving in actual construction work is remarkable, and "B.B." blocks are of ; maximum strength. | Under an electric compression test at Canterbury College the "B.B." has with- ■ stood a crushing strain of 21.08 tons, I and crushing load per square foot of , 37.47 tons.
