A. team cf twenty-three players has been chosen 'by Messrs. A. J. Griffiths, of Wellington, and Donald Stuart, of Dunedin, to represent New Zealand in a tour of Austr?Ha, which will be made in about three weeks' time. Of these All Blacks of 1922 fourteen are new to international honours, but on the display fiven in the inter-island game on Saturday followers of Rugby •»*«"£ satisfied that the Australians will tod no decline in the All Black standard. The forwards are above last years division, and while the bJWks have not the all-round brilliancy of some of the combinations of a decade ago, they will probably ibe found to be quite up to New Zealand traditions once they get together. The selection as a whole is one that meets with general approval. It is:—
Full-back: R. Bell (Otago. Three-quarters: J. Steel (West Coast), P Hiekey (Taranaki), J. Fitzgerald tMarlborough), V. Badeley (Auckland), S. Siddells (Wellington). Five-eighths: il- Nieholls (Wellington), G. Dickinson (Otago), K. S. Svenson (Buller). Half-backs: R. Mat-Meson (Otago).. H. Xicholls (Wellington). Forwards: S. Shearer (Wellington), U. P. Calcinai (Wellington), F. H. Masters (Taranaki), J. Richardson (Otago), M. Brownlee (Hawice's Bay), L. Cupples (Bay of Plenty), A. White (Southland), M. Bellis, captain (Wanganui), G. O'Brien (Auckland), F. Smyth (Canterbury), J. Donald (Wairarapa), L. Petersen (Canterbury). W. Fea, of Otago, who captained the South Island team on Saturday, was not available for selection as he wa? unable to obtain the leave to make the trip. The members of the team that have previously played for New Zealand are Steel, Siddells, M. and H. Nicholls, Calcinai, Shearer, Richardson, Bellie, and Donald—four backs and five forwards.
The players are to assemble in Wellington on July 17 for a match against Wairarapa, and they will sail for Sydney by the Ulimaroa about July 20. The Australian programme includes fn*e matches, and on their return, via Auckland, the All Blacks will play a mat<?h against Auckland.
