ISLAND FRUIT TRADE.
At a meeting of the council of the; U'ellineton ( hamber of Commerce on ; Monday a letter was read from the i Auckland Chamber of Commerce enclo*in«j a communication received from Mr. Kol-ert Burns, and comment by an Island trader on the action taken by the Wellington Chamber of Commerce in reference to diverting the Flora from her regular itinerary, that is, irom Auckland to the Kastern Pacific and back, ko that she might make alternate trips to Wellington. The trader commented on the fact of the mail steamer and the Island steamer loading fruit at the same time, and suggesting a fortnightly arrangement. Mr. Press said that there appeared to lie a mis.-or.cption about the matter. It would be in the interest of the Island trade that the Flora and the San Francisco steamers should call every fortnight alternately, and an alteration of Ihe time-table in that direction would ■In nil that was required. It was decided that a deputation should wait on the Union Steamship Company and ascertain whether it was possible to give effect to Mr. Press' suggestion and communicate with the Auckland ( hamber afterwards.
