STRIKES ON A ROCK. „ « MAKES LVTTELTOX WITH PUMPS GOING. (By Telegraph.-I're<Sts Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. this day. The coastal steamer Cygnet while on a trip to Kaikonra from Lyttelton etruek a rock at Point Gibson, just south of Gore Bay, at two o'clock this morning. Th(» weather was fair and the 6ea moderate. After examination of the vessel the captain decided to return to Lyttelton, which port the vessel reached in due course. Captain Murray etated that after the vessel struck he immediately launched ; the lifeboat and ordered the crew into jit. He then investigated the extent of the damage, and concluded that the Teasel's pumps could keep the water down while she was returning to Lyttelton. Investigation at Lyttelton showed j that the vessel's bow had been torn ! away about three feet and bent over to j the starboard side. Port Gibson is 48 i miles from Lyttelton and 34 from Kaikoura.
