CHAMBER OF COMMERCE LUNCH.

At the second of the lunches organ-1 ised by the Auckland Chamber of Com-! raerce held this afternoon in the Town ' Hall there was an attendance of 120 members. Mr. It. Leslie Stewart, who presided in the absence of the Hon. George Fowlds. referred to the success of the innovation and explained that j 220 members had signed "on for the I lunches during the next 11 months. There had been an increase of 107 in the membership of the Chamber, which now stood at 520, and it was intended to endeavour to make it 700 by an { oarly date. He spoke of the work of: the chamber in looking after business! interests, and as an instance of its', standing spoke of the fact that the Government had consulted it on the matter of taxation. He reminded the members that each of them had a duty to the community, the Chamber intended to occupy a more prominent part in the future than it had done in the past. It had done good work in the past. and in the future would do better. Mr. H. T. Merritt. on behalf of a committee which had been appointed, said that it had been decided that it would be unwise to add to tlio present building in Swanson Street in order to get more accommodation, and the com-1 mittee wee considering other etepe.
