HANDLING OF GOODS.

RAILWAY DIFFICULTIES. DEPARTMENT BLAMES HARBOL'R BOARD. In reply to a resolution by the Association of Xew Zealand Chambers of Commerce (emanating from the Auckland Chamber), complaining of the unsatisfactory system of the railway handling of sliipments arriving at Xew Zealand ports, the Secretary for Railways replied:— "The General Manager of the Xew Zealand Railways states that the ehicl trouble in this direction is Auckland; that some time back his Department, at considerable expense, tiros and trouble, drew up nn agreement with the Harbour Board to get over the difficulties which the Chambers of Commerce complained of, but the Auckland Harbour Board ultimately refused to sign the agreement, and nothing has been done since. A good working agreement is in operation with the Wellington Harbour Board. It seems to mc, therefore, that the Auckland Chamber of Commerce should get into touch with the Auckland Harbour Board with a view to putting into operation the arrangements originally made with the Railway Department." The letter was considered by the .Auckland Ohairjber yesterday and the matter was referred to the Harbour Board, with a request for the fullest information.
