HIS FOUR CHILDREN.

A CASUAL FATHER. 'PUSHES THEM ON GRA*.I>MA. "You cannot bring children in the world and then push them on to other people to keep," said Mr. Poynton, S*M., this morning to Edward John MoClintock, who was charged in the City Court with failing to maintain his four offspring. Accused's brother-in-law said that he had not maintained his children ior six months, but had spent his money on drink. He had told witness that he intended to clear off to Sydney —to abandon his wife and children apparently. Mr. Wyatl informed the Court that McClintock on leaving Auckland on otic occasion had taken two of his children and pushed them into his mother's back yard, without telling.the old lady anything about it. His mother was a frail old body and could not properly care for the children, so she had to put them in a home and pay for their maintenance there. MeCiintock's wife was in service with one child, and the fourth child was otherwise provided for. Mr. Poynton, S.M.: They could have been dead long ago tor all he cared. McClintock: I left them in good hands; I simply failed to keep up payment. Mr. Poynton: What have you done with the money you earned—spent it on drink? McClintoek: No; I have not been earning enough to keep myself decently. My wagqs last week only tot»Ued 37/6. The defendant was ordered to pay i-i a week towards the support of his children, and warned that if he did not do so he would be seiit to gaol for six months.
