AVONDALE ROAD BOARD.

A meeting of the Avpnd»le Road Board was held on Tuesday evening Mr. W. J. Tait presiding. There were also present. Messrs. J. H. Fleming. T. W. Wilson, A. P Haslam. D. Wilson. T. n. fcpargo, ana Thus. Roe.

The medical officer of health wrote reporting on an inspection of the Chinese dwellings in the district, and recommended that a notice be served upon some of them requiring certain improvements to be effected. In reference to the notices served from time to time under the llealth Act it was resolved to ask the inspector of health to report to the board whether the requirements have been effected to his satisfaction.

The Hon. C. .T. Parr telegraphed to say be would open the Avondale Manual and Technical School on Thursday, April "J*.

Mr. A. Whit bread wrote asking the board to subscribe towards the cost of erecting two bathing shede at Green Bay. Resolved to donate £i '1/ if plans are submitted and approved by the- board.

The Mount Albert Borongn Council wrote re. Oakley Creek culvert, and agreed to work being carried out according to schedule, providing the estimate in cost of metal is reduced by 2/ yard. Referred to a. committee with, power to act.

The State Advances Office remitted a further £3000 on account of water loan. tnin completing the £10,000 applied for. It was resolved to apply at once for a loan of £4000. being the balance of water loun of £14.000 authorised by ratepayers.

Several tenders were received for pipes anrt fittings. Messrs. Wlncate's tender was the lowest, and it was decided to accept their tender. The chairman voted against the acceptance of the tender, as he disapproved of the scheme of laving 2in pipes In streets where 4in pipes would soon be required.

Two applications were received for secondhand dealers' licenses. The police report being favourable the licenses were grunted.
