CONTESTS AT W-HANGAREI. MAY DEFEATS DIGNAN. "*" (By Telegraph.—Own OorresDouden't.) •WHANGAREI, this day. A light-weight professional contest between Harry May (recent!}- amateur lightweight champion of Australasia) and P. D. Dtguan, of Auckland, was fought iv tihe Whangarei Town Hall last night. The fight went the full fifteen rounds. .May getting a decisive victory on points. Maywas aggressive throughout. Only Dignan's good defence obviated a knockout, and le took a lot of body punishment. The winner was subsequently challenged by J. Humphries, a. firominent northern amateur, and the challenge w-a.s accepted. The chief contest was preceded by five amateur bouts. The results aro as follow: — Feather-weight.— TV. T. Collens .Auckland) beat R. N. Attwood (Maimgakaramea) after an extra round had been fougnt at tihe request of the referee. Light-weights. —H. Walker (Maungakaramea) beat A. Bowman (Whangarei). •G. Reeve.- (Dargaville) beat 11. Dlguan (Auckland). Middle-weight.—A. Snowden (Hikurangi) beat F. Cunis (Wbaugarei). Heavy-weight.—l. Kehoe (Whangarei)T_cat S. Lipp* (Maungakaramea) in a very exciting contest.
