AUCKLAND WOMEN'S CLUB.

FAREWELL TO THE PRESIDENT, j The opening of the new premises in j Sbortt's Buildings, to be occupied by the I Auckland Women's. Club, who "have| found their previous rooms in Swani-on , Street too restricted, took place last evening in tiie new apartments. The rooms tvill greatly enhance the power, for public good of the club as they will ' provide a much larger lounge. The room is comfortably furnished and Avas gay with (lowers! for the evening, it being j also a farewell to the president, Mre. W. R. Wilson, who is leaving for a holi-1 day in Europe. In her address to the members Mrs. Wilson said that she thought the feeling of the club Avas in, accord with the attitude of the Mayor with regard to Ur. Linton's-, speech. She spoke on many matters of interest to | the club, urging members to take a j keener interest in their club and partiei- | pate in its various activities. It had always been her earnest desire that the club should accomplish some Avork of philanthropy, and that it_ influence for good should be felt in the city. As her term of ollice would not expire until June, the vice-president, Mrs. W. Parkes, had consented to act as president during the next three montlu-. Mrs. Parkes, in accepting ofiice, sai.l their pleasure in celebrating the opening of the tie.v club Avas tinged with regret, that Mrs. Wilson was going away for a time. Mrs. Wilson had held the position of president since the foundation of the club three yean- ago, and very few realised the heavy responsibility she had so cheerfully borne. She had proved herself a woman of splendid ideals, and the success attained by the club was due to her untiring efforts. The club Ava-s not merely a social one. but stood for the advancement of the interests of Avomen generally. Mrs. l'arkes referred to the unbounded generosity of Mrs. Wilson toward the club, and on behalf of members Avished her a pleasant and happy trip and a i-afe return. Miss E. Melville, also on behalf of the memberc. thanked Mrs. Wilson for her splendid work in connection with the 61ub. Enjoyable musical items Avere contributed by Miss Mina Caldow and Miss E. 1 Plummet-.
