SNAPPED UP IN THE STREET. DOMINION ROAD INCIDENT. A mild sensation was caused in Dominion Road yesterday afternoon by what appeared to 'be a daring aibduction of a little girl of ten years 'by a man in a motor car. The child bad 'been sent a message from her mother's place of residence to Mr. .1. Coupland's grocery shop, a short distance away, and had just got into the shop Avhen a motor car pulled up at the kerb outside the shop entrance. A man jumped from the car, hastened into the shop, lifted the girl in his arms, carried her to the car. the engine of Avhich had been left running, and droA-e aAvay. By the startled actions and exclamations of the girl the only shop assistant Avho Avas at the counter at the time gathered that the girl was an unAA-illing participant of the incident, and though the car Avas on the mOA-e before he and others in the vicinity realised what was afoot, they had the presence of mind to take the number of the car. and to ring up the police.

Subsequent inquiry Iby the poliec established that, the episode was the outcome of domestic friction. The child's parents bad been living apart for some time, she being in the mothers custody, and the father had taken this means of getting custody of the child. It. is understood that the future relations of husband and Avifc. and also the custody of the child, yvill 'be the subject of a private Court action, either by way of scparat.ion or divorce proceedings.
