WATERSIDERS' WAGES.
CITATION BY EMPLOYERS. NKW AGREEMENT WANTED. (By TelogTapu —Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Kriday. Following the example set by the MineowiKins' Association the shipping companies and other employers of waterside labour have cited the waterside workers' organisation under the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act. The Waterside Workers' Federation at The conclusion of its annual conference held ar New Plymouth presented to the employers demands for a new agreement but the terras of the proposals were not made public. It was stated, however, tliat the federation a-sked for an increase in wages. The proposals were considered at. a conference of employers held in Wellington, and the employers decided to refer to the Arbitration Court the fettling of the terms of the new agreement. Citations were filed with the clerk of awards yesterday afternoon. It now rests with the conciliation commissioner i<> fix a date for the first meeting of a Conciliation Council. Details of the terms proposed by the employers are not yet available. *Jt is understood, however, that in the matter of wages they suggest a rate equivalent to that of general labourers. Watersiders are now receiving 2/4 an hour and general labourers J/10j.
