NEW PLYMOUTH FATALITY.
THE CORONER'S INQUEST. BOAT WELL EQUIPPED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Monday. An inquest on the victims of the boatins; fatality was opened to-day by Mr. Bundle, S.M. Captain O'Brien, master of the Easterner, said he reiused to put Butler and Piper ashore on Saturday on account of roiigh seas, but at 1.30 p.m. on Sunday the ship -was in comparatively smooth -water, therefore he ordered a boat out. with Deslcin, a most competent man. in charge. He anticipated no danjTCT of landing. The iboat was thoroughly equipped with life-lie Its. and Oaiptain Smith, the pilot, who was on board the Kasterner. -when asked, agreed that it was quite safe. H<? thought a safe landing had been made on the beat-h until tne harbour master sent a message at six o'clock reporting the accident; otherwise he would lisive sent another boat to assist. The inquiry was adjourned till TTn.'rsday afternoon.
