VAUXHALL SCHOOL QUEEN CARNIVAL.
TEX PREFECTS CHOSEK.
The voting in connection with the carnival which has been held recently at Devonport to provide funds for the formation of the grounds of tlie new school at Vauxhall was concluded at a gathering held in the V.M-C.A. hall at the Narrow Keck camp on Saturday evening. The competition resulted in the selection of the "'Fairy Queen," little Joyce Wilson, as the head of the carnival, and the total amount raised by the united efforts of tlie committees of the four queens was the substantial sum of £31)2. Saturday's function marks the close of the carnival activities, except for tlie coronation ceremony, which it is proposed to hold at the end of October or early in November, and in which most of the school children will take part. A feature of the gathering on Saturday evening was the appointment of five boy's and five girls as school prefects, when Mr. 11. 0. Cousins, principal of the Auckland Training College, briefly addressed them, pointing out the necessary qualities to he cultivated by each of them for the proper fulfilment of their new duties. Mrs. H. 11. Watkins then pinned to the breast of each a neat silver badge of office.
