(Before Mr. J. \V. Poynton, S.M.) THE DRUNKARDS. One first offender, who overestimated his capacity for intoxicating liquor, was fined £1, and another was convicted and discharged on the understanding that he paid 10/0 expenses. Another young man, 24 yean* of age. named Albert Johnson, who had committed a grossly indecent act within view of several members of the force, admitted the offence and was fined £5. Four charges were preferred against a shaky individual named Albert Tibbutt. 59 years of age. They were drunkenness, procuring liquor during currency of prohibition order, and entering the Royal and Waverl'ey Hotel-! during the currency of the order. Tibbutt was not asked to say whether he admitted the breaches or not, the police applying for a remand to the 14th inst.. which was granted on the ground that the accused was not in a fit condition to participate in the proceedings. A YOUNG MARKSMAN. A complaint made by a neighbour who was rather perturbed by hearing a shot and finding a pea rifle bullet upon her kitchen floor led to the interrogation of Noel Edward Hodges, a youth of 1». by the police, and the infliction of penalties totalling £i> 12/ upon him to-day. When the constable called on young Hodges he was cleaning the pea rifle, and he admitted that he had fired it six times. Further than that, he could produce nothing to ehoiv that he had ever registered the firearm. When the case was called the Magistrate read a letter he had received from the youth pleading guilty and saying he was away on a farm and could not attend at the court. For having a rifle unregistered Hodges was lined £5. witli costs 11/. and on the charge of -shooting in a public place he was convicted and ordered to pay 21/ costs. The police reported that Hodgee had applied to have his rifle registered in accordance with the Act. BY-lAWS. Cases of by-law breaches were dealt with as follows:—C.
