There was a good attendance at tie Auckland Chess Clirb last week, when competitors In tlie various tournaments met to resume their contests. Keen interest was taken in the result of tihe game between ■T. CouTthard and P. N\ Stewart, who met for the first time in the championship. 'Stewart made a mistake, and got all the worst of the opening, but subsequent weak •play on Coulthard's part allowed liis opponent to consolidate "lis position. After -obis the game was uninteresting, as neither player would force the issue, and they llnully agreed on a draw.
