He has been shootimr for 14 years, and has attended this meeting nine times, always putting to-etber a good aggregate. N'ielson, the runner-up, is a schoolmaster at Meanec. Hawke's Bay, and has been a very consistent shot for several years past. The presentation of prizes took place on the range immediately after the shooting had concluded. Colonel Collins welcomed Lord and Lady Jeliicoe and (ailed upon Lad'- .lellieoc to present the -iri/.es. He said the association had done n great work during the last 43 years ir> promoting shootinc throughout New Zealand. As well as teaching the men to shoot it encouraged a spirit of patriotism in its members. The 4.11! men on the range represented only a small portion of those who had been trained by the association. Many of the best snipers during the late war had been trained on the ranges. The matter of s-'ii-ling :i team to represent New Zealand at iSi-dey v,:is one very (lose to the hearts of all riflemen. He had that day received :' telegram from the Minister of Defence, stating that a sufficient sum to send n team to this year's llisley meeiillg had j been placed on the Kstiuiates. Colonel j Collins said this- was the Inst meeting nt ] which he would he the chief exceptive I officer. lie was resigning from I'.ni. posi-j lion, but did not intend to sever Imnseif altogether from rille shooting and the j dominion Rifle Association. He hoped i the distribution of the new- rilles to cadets and territorials would he ex- j pedited in order that more cadets and. j territorials might be able to take part j in future rifle meetings. Lady Jellieo.-* ihen presented lliel prize-. I Lord Jellicoe concrat'ilated \. eiine-1 upon winning the b_.lt. He ltn»- that | C ilomirio;, 1.1. 1 .. Association at the beginnini of the war had done grpat , work in helping to train riflemen for the expeditionary Force. Rille shooting as a sport or recreation was one of which he was personally very fond, nnd he sympathised with the keenness of those men who had conic long distances to take part in a suc.-c--.nl and most interesting meeting. He said it was particularly interesting to know that the champion would have an opportunity of going Home to take part in the Hisley meeting, and he hoped, if he did go. he would bring ba'-k with him the King's prize. At the conclusion of the ceremony Lord Jellicoe, on behalf of the riflemen made a presentation to Colonel Co'lili' and Mrs. Collins of pieces of silver plate, as a mark of appreciation of the colonel's long sen-ices to the association.
