EFFECT UPON JAPAN. TOKYO, March 7. . .lapanese newspapers continue to eonv nient on the attitude of tbe United States regarding Yap. The "Kokumin (Shimbun" says tnat if Japan offers an inch, the United States will try to take a yard. Japan's spirit of compromise will serve only to stiffen the American attitude on the mandate question. The "'Nichi Nichi Shimbun'' says that the American attitude cannot but impress the Japanese as a challenge by a country which is foremost, in attacking the Japanese for being militaristic^ A meeting of business men decided to cable to Mr. W. (i. Harding and Mr. Borah, urging them to use their influence in favour of disarmament. Tile meeting also de-rided to request the.Japanese Diet to apply part of the military and naval appropriations for purposes of education a«d social impnovemctit. Th© newspapers ape dis-* cussing disarmament, and declare that the Japanese people desire it.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
