AFTER THE BATTLE.
DEMPSEY S POOR SHOWING. CARFENTIERS STOCK RISES. VANCOUVER, December 15. In the opinion of New York sporting writers Carpenticr's stock rose greatly as a result of Dempsey's relatively poor showing against Brennan, who really won the first five rounds, and was even to the eighth, when Dempsey landed two crushing blows on the stomach. Jack Kearns (the champion's manager) claims that Dempsey was a bit over-trained and slow. The champion had only had two fights in 17 months. Dempsey missed frequently, and his timing was slow, and the consensus of opinion was that he retained the championship, but lost much colour. During the earlier part of the fight, when Brennan was carrying the fight to.the champion and leading all the time, the gods howled wildly, expecting to see the championship change hands.
