GREATER TRAM TRAFFIC.
LAST YEAR'S SHOWING BEATEN. Because of the changes made in July when the fares were increased and the concession tickets introduced, it is impossible for the officials of the Auckland Tramways Company this year to institute accurate comparisons 'between the Christmas traffic of 1920 and that of the previous year. "You can take it, however,"' said an official of the company to the "Star" this morning, "that we have carried more passengers this season. Naturally we took in more money, because of the increased fares, but allowing for that, we still find that we carried more passengers. The changes made during the year, however, prevent us keeping figures showing the actual numbers, and so it is impossible to institute arithmetical comparisons with last year. We do not know the number of tickets issued because so many of them were concession tickets. Nest year it will be possible to show comparisons, but this year we can say only that undoubtedly the traffic up to yesterday, when the rain began, is heavier than it was twelve months ago."
