POLICE COURT.
(Before }Ir. R. W. McKean, S.M.)" DRUNKENNESS. Only cases of insobriety during the holidays were dealt with at the short sitting of the Police Court this morning. William Lindsay was arrested in Customs Street drunk, and when riding in state to the lockup threw a bottle of beer into Queen Street. This feat cost him an extra £3 or seven days, while he was charged £1 or three days for the drunkenness. Richard Davies, who aggravated hie offence at the tepid baths, -was fined £5. "An order is no Hse to you," said the Bench to Thomas Connolly, who had four previous convictions in the last six months. He was given a fortnight at Mount Eden. John Cecil Slays, with one previous conviction, got off with 20/ fine, as did John Michael Wallace, John Anderson, William Bartley and Jamea Emberson. The latter was also convicted of obscene language, which cost him an additional £4. Throe weeks ago Mabel Walters arrived from a year's sojourn at Pakatoa, and she had, she said, kept away from her failing xintil yesterday, when she was found, drunk in Nelson Street. She was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon, and another term down the harbour was pictured for her. "I don't know what is best to do with you," greeted Joseph Williams (77) from the Bench. The decision was fourteen days'at Mount Eden. Timothy Delaney inadvertently added a touch of humour to the morning's proceedings when he offered to put two or three pounds cash in a poor box. This was his fifth appearance in the last six months, and when he was reminded of this he offered to sacrifice the other pound. He got his desire, but the State, not the poor box, got the £3.
