LAD STEALS £15.
AND ENJOYS HIMSELF IS WELLINGTON. Accused of the theft of £13 from Messrs Stacey, fruiterers, on [December 22nd., George Leo Gussy, aged 17, appeared in the Police Court this morning. According to the particulars given by Constable Meiklejohn, the lad, who wae an employee of the firm, had been sent with the money to the tramway offices. Instead of delivering it he had bought clothes in the city, gone to AYellington, and- spent all except a small amount which had been recovered. Chief Detective McMahon said the youth was somewhat irresponsible. Hi 3 parents were respectable people and the lad had teen getting 30/ a week in regular employment. As there had not been any previous charge against him he suggested he miglit be let off as a first offender. The magistrate (Mr. W. K. MeKean) agreed to this course and ordered the accused to pay back the money at the rate of £1 a "week. The lad's" father, who was in Court, seemed much affected* by the proceedings and professed himI self as unable to explain the lad's lapse.
