DEAD MAN'S BODY AFLOAT.

The body of a man, fully dressed and cloaked in a buttoned overcoat, floating in the Orakei Basin, near Lucerne Road, Remuera, attracted the attention of two boys at about 4.30 yesterday afternoon. Constable Mclnnes, of Remuera, was informed of the discovery, and eventually recovered the body, which had the appearance of having been in the water for some time. It was identified as that of Mr. Alfred Samuel Alderton, a resident of Parnell, aged 46 years. He was a returned soldier, and had lately been doing casual work on the railway. He was last seen alive on December 1, when he complained of a -headache, but was otherwise in his usual health. Mr. Alderton leaves two children. An inquest will be held at 4 o'clock this afternoon.
