NOT MET ON ARRIVAL.
Of\ --RSEAS SOLDIERS' DILEMMA. Alleged neglect on the part of the Immigration Department to have soldier immigrants met on arrival at Auckland was ventilated at the meeting of the Returned Soldiers' Executive last evening. Mr. E. F. Andrews (secretary) pointed out the very unsatisfactory _mditions that prevailed—men sent here by the Overseas Land Settlement Committee in London not being properly provided for. He cited the case of a party of five or six Imperial ex-service men who arrived by -Maheno. They were not met and further were allowed to take "pot luck." Three of the party had called on him and told him that" they had no accommodation and no employment to go to. Mr. Andrews said that he had forwarded a strong protest regarding fhe position to the Prime Minister* and had also referred the matter to the Dominion headquarters of the association.
The president, Mr. fi. Elliot, also cited a case of a Scottish farmer who also arrived by the same steamer and found himself in the same position aa the party whose case Mr. Andrews has taken up. Mr. Andrews' action was approved.
