ELECTRIFIED RAILWAYS.
JAPAN'S BIG SCHEME. TO COST TWENTY BULLIONS. (Received 0.30 a.m.) WASHINGTON', September 23. The Department of Commerce learns that the Japanese railway authorities have decided to substitute electricity for steam on all the lines within the Empire, thereby reducing the number of locomotives in Bervice by 40 per cent. The cost of the scheme is estimated at £20,000,000.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
