MINERS TO STRIKE.
NOTICES HANDED IN. FIXED FOR SEPTEMBER 25 (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, September 2. A meeting of the miners' executive to-day decided to hand in notices to strike, the notices terminating on September 25.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.) APPROACHING GOVERNMENT. TRADES UNION ACTION. LONDON, September .2. i The executive of the Triple Labour Alliance—miners, railwaymen, and transport workers—is remaining in continuous session, and has power to add to its i number. It is expected to approacll the ! Government with the object of reopening negotiations in reference to the miiiers' dispute. It is not likely the trade unions "ill allow matters to drift to a strike. A prominent member of the South Wales Miners' Executive said: "A strike would ruin us, as the organisation would undo* all we have accomplished. Undoubtedly we should be hopelessly divided throughout the country. The miners would strike without that unity which is essential to success. A strike lasting a fortnight would deplete the funds of the federation completely. I cannot contemplate the awful tilings that would happen if large masses of the people were idle and some destitute. The demand for the reduction of the price of coal should be dropped, and the demands confined to an advance in wages." -Manufacturers in all parts of England, replying to a circular on the subject issued by the National Union of Manufacturers, axe unanimously in favour of closing down all industries in the event of a miners' strike. The union promises the Government whole-hearted support regardless of the Immediate consequences, provided the Government does not eventually concede everything the miners demand, as in the railway strike. , (A. and N.Z. Cable.) BIG STRIKE IN AMERICA. 30,000 MEN OUT. (Received 1.30 p.m.) PITTSBmiG, September 2. Thirty thousand mine workers in the ! anthracite coalfields have struck , as a protest against the wage advance award made 'by Jlr. B. Wilson, Secretary of Lateour.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
