According to the mines report, legislation will be introduced this session to revive the bonus provision of the Iron ■nd Steel Industries Act of 1914. Test quantities of Taranaki ironsand and Parapara iron ore arc being sent to England for tests to be made under the oversight of one of the recognised iron and steel experts of England, who will report on the possibility of producing iron on a commercial scale in New Zealand. Since September. 1919, the Government has been negotiating with the British Admiralty for the purpose of entering into an arrangement with, the British Government in connection with the boring and development of mineral oil and other products in New Zealand, but up to the present time no agreement has been entered into. Unfortunately, adds the report, petroleum has not yet been found in payable quantity in New Zealand, though several companies have carried on boring during the year. They received £4450 in subsidies. The Government has under consideration a proposal for the development of our oil resources, with thn object of definitely proving whether they are of commercial value.
