SUFFRAGE IN AMERICA.
i WOMEN GET THE VOTE. j NOW FART OF CONSTITUTION. I NEW YORK, August 22. j The State Legislature of Tennessee • has ratified the Woman Suffrage Bill by ISO votes to 46. Tennessee, being the thirty-, ix lii State to ratify the measure, the amendment to the Constitution providing for woman suffrage becomes the basic law of the t'nit.-d States. j The New York "Evening Sun" says that the enfranchisement of 27,000,000 ! women of voting age is expected to bring about an element of doubt in the Presidential elections. There is still a slight chance that the Tennessee vote may be recJii.-idered, but this is not expected to occur. It is said that political leaders are completely at sea regarding the action women will take with regard to the liquor question and the League of Nations. It is pointed out that it will be difficult to organise the women, and although more than 10.000,000 women had the right to vote in many States previously, many of these took no important .art in polities. Both Republicans and Democrats are taking steps to canvass tbe situation and to make a special anneal to the new voters. — (A. and N.Z." Cable.)
