COST OF BLANKETS.
The Auckland Prices Investigation Tribunal sat this morning, Mr. Wesley ■Spragfr presiding.
Xttv complaints in regard to the wholesale prices nharged for bread, su-rar, butter, vegetables, flour, timber, and carriers' charges were considered.
The tribunal has received complaints concerning the retail prices charged for blankets. It has made numerous inquiries, ami finds IVit th.- prevailing percentage added to the wholesale cost is 50 per cent, and this is too high. The tribunal has referred the matter to the Board of Trade at Wellington for special report as to whether 50 per cent on !!ie cost was justified or not. The Board of Trade has given its careful consideration, and has replied in the foHoiving terms: 'In the Board's opinion 50 per cerrt on cost is unreasonable 33 1-3 per edit being sufficient, particularly in regszd to locally manufactured blankrts. TV Hoard eonsidt.Ts that the drapers should be given sutlicicnt notice to reduce the percentage before any m'tion is ta3cen."
