A SATISFACTORY RESULT. (By Telesraiyli —iPrc-is Association.) WELLINGTON', Monday. The Poet and Telegraph Officers' Association Conference was continued today. A resolution was paesed authorising alteration of the constitution of the association so that the association oan register under the provision of the Labour Disputes Investigation Act. A motion was also carried asking for full civil and political rights for members ° l the poet nnd telegraph service. A proposal to affiliate with the National Industrial Alliance of Labour was not entertained. Tin. Wellington section of the Post 1 nnd Telegraph Association met to-night I to receive the report of delegates con- | kerning the deputation to the Prime I Minister nnd the Hon -f. G. Coatee. | The chairman said that Mr. Massey I had practically promised what had been ; asked. lie read the following telegram, j which, he said, had been sent out to all \ branches of the association, that day j after the interview with the Prime Minister: "The Prime Minister to-day definitely committed the Government, in the presence of a full conference, to ' pro rata increases in salaries or wages in ! sympathy with the ascertained cost ot j living increase. The question ot consequential adjustments will be referred to the board to be set up, when each branch of tho Public Service will be dealt with on its own merits. Mr. Maascy further stated that if the service is not satisfied with the #olary schedules when produced, delegates may return and place the service's objections to same before him. Telegram was read to a full conference before dispatch." The following motion was passed:—''That this meeting is perfectly satisfied with the attitude of the conference, and congratulates them on the. present position." The seconder of the motion said he was afraid that Mr. Massey would attempt to •'side-step" them again, but the chairman replied that that would not be ao, because Mr. Massey had declared that he would give a reply to the association's demands before "Parliament met. AUCKLAND RESOLUTION. The telegram referred to above wae read at a meeting of the Auckland branch last evening, when, after a prolonged discussion, the following motions were adopted:—(l) 'That this section expresses its confidence in its executive, and considers that the telegram as read is perfectly satisfactory; but we would like some definite assurance as to the date on which the board is to sit. Furthermore, this section stande firm behind the executive and exhorts them to stick fast to their object of obtaining eatisfaetion and common justice for all." (2) "That every- member of the Post and Telegraph Association shall participate in the cost of living increase to the same extent, without discrimination."
