CEMENT SHORTAGE.
RELIEF FROM. AUSTRALIA. (From 4>ur Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, {hia day. ' The acute position created throughout the Auckland Province owing to the shortage of cement was referred to by tlic chairman of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, Mr. ti. Parr, last night. Mr. Pair commented that farmers and builders were seriously put about by the great dearth of necessary building materials.- -Hβ-thought it might be possible to secure, a cargo of cement from Australia to tide over the present crisis. Mr. A. L. Stephenson said that he understood that there were ample supplies in Australia. The difficulty was to get the cement over to New Zealand. He thought it might be possible for the Waikato Shipping Company to undertake to bring over a shipment of 500 tons if a return cargo was guaranteed, and if sufficient orders were placed to absorb the whole of the shipment. It •was generally considered there would be no diffioulty whatever'in. securing necessary orders. One business man stated that he believed his firm alone would take the whole shipment. Mr. Stephenson was asked to secure the necessary information on the subject of the possibilities of securing a shipment from Australia.
