Mr. D. Jones, M.P., and Mrs. Jones, who arrived from Sydney by the M&heno, left for the South by the midday express.
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Gale, -who are leaving Dunedin for Auckland, were presented by .tEe choir of Knox Church with' a salad bowl and servers.
Mr. T. B. Williams was last night elected to fill the position of Mayor of Wanganui, rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr. C. E. Mackay. Mr. Richardson was elected Deputy-Mayor.
Mr. Robert Waddell Reed, died at Kelson, aged 61, after a brief illness. Deceased was a Scottish journalist, and had latterly been sub-editor on the "Colonist."
Mr. T. R> Keeeing, for many yeans manager of the jewellery department at P. Hayman and Co., left by the Maheno for Sydney, where he intends to start business.
Mr. J. V. Wilson, an «ld pupil of Christchurch Boys' High School, has been elected to the Senior Foundation Scholarship at Trinity College, Cambridge
Mr. M. M. J. Gregory, a resident of Stanley Bay, was born in Auckland on May 26, 1845, 75 yeare ago. One grandson was killed in action, six are living, also three great-grandchildren.
Mr. W. Lloyd Phillips was presented by the staff of Otago Girls' High School with a travelling rug prior to hie departure to take up the position of physical instructor at the V.M.C.A., New York.
The Mayor (Mr. J. H. Gunson) will farewell the Auckland members of the New Zealand Olympic team at the railway station on Monday evening. He then purposes taking a fortnight's rest out of the city, the different important municipal matters that have engaged his close attention in the past few weeks being now well in hand and- affording him an opportunity of respite from the strain of office.
