GOVERNOR OF FIJI.
ARRIVES IN AUCKLAND.
The Governor of Fiji, Sir Cecil Rod-1 well> accompanied by his aides-de-camp, Captains Westmacott and Joske, arrived •by the Makura yesterday. Sir Cecil Rodwell makes his first visit to New Zealand, and was manifestly enjoying the cold morning. "We have 'had a very hot, trying summer in Fiji," he said, "and I intend to go South, -where I hope to run into still colder weather." He expects to be in New Zealand about a week,, spending the greater portion of the time with his eon, who is at school in the South. He -will then proceed to Sydney, and then home to Fiji.
He had very little to say. regarding the recent native trouble in the Islands, save that he hoped and. believed that it was at an end. On the question of Island trade he proved more expansive, and stated that great hopes were held of the result of the inquiries made try the joint commission of New Zealand and Island business men which has been recently set up. "We, in the Islands, are enthusiastically looking forward to a much-increased fruit trade with New Zeaiand, and it is likely that the recommendations made by these gentlemen will be of great assistance to us."
